Developments and letters

Oct 2020 - Dec 2020

On October 5, the State Secretary will write an interim report on St. Eustatius (in Dutch) to the House of Representatives in view of the upcoming elections (of October 21, 2020). The same 5th of October, I will write my comments on this report to the House of Representatives.

10 October is the tenth anniversary of the entry into force of the new state system. On the occasion of this memorable fact a book has been published: Kingdom on Eggs (in Dutch). I read this book with interest and give my reflection.

20 October (the evening before election day): radioprogram (FAB Radio 90.3) with Franklin Brown.

21 October 2020 local elections will take place. The day after (22 October 2020) the results will be known and I will give my appreciation to the Lower House.

On 23 October 2020 several reports will appear on koninkrijk.nu (for example this one and this one). One of them concerns a vision of Mr. Van Raak (SP). I will respond to this immediately.

On 27 October 2020 a sequel to Mr. Van Raak's speech will be published. Against this I take a stand again.

On October 30, 2020 there is a message that State Secretary Knops will visit St. Eustatius on November 3, 2020. Very unwise in the covid19 pandemic, I write in my letter.

On November 7, 2020 I will write a letter in which I look back on the visit of State Secretary Knops, the image problem Statia is facing and that a broad equalization operation (Statia // European Netherlands) should actually be carried out.

On November 18th I will write a letter in which I will discuss the different rates in tax and benefits against the background of article 1 of the Constitution which states that all Dutch citizens are treated in the same way in equal situations. I will send this letter to the Commission of Finance as well as to the Commission of Social Affairs and Employment. This is here to be found.

On 19 November I write a widely addressed letter in which I again quote article 1 of the Constitution. I think I see an inequality between the way in which secondary school students from the European Netherlands move on to continuing HBO education on the one hand and the secondary school students with a CSEC-diploma, obtained on St. Eustatius, who move on to HBO education on the other hand. You can read here more about this.

On November 20th an Aviation Memorandum with an accompanying Implementation Agenda will be published. Quite briefly a weekly direct flight between St. Eustatius and Bonaire will be introduced. Coincidence? I do not know. This is here explained in more detail.

On December 9, 2020 the report by State Secretary Knops on his trip to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom (in Dutch), including St. Eustatius, is being published. On December 12, 2020 I will write my reaction to this.

The Daily Herald reports that Koos Sneek is going to the Netherlands to defend his plan of approach ("A new beginning") with members of the Commission Kingdom Relations of the Dutch Parliament. My comment I send December 15, 2020.
